Focusing on insecurities of private sector workers
During the first week in his office the new Labour Minister Gamini Lokuge has concentrated his attention towards the several insecurities faced by private sector employees.
The minister said that he aims to address not only matters pertaining to the public sector but also to the private sector as well.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Labour is planning to begin talks on a possible pension plan for private sector employees this week.

According to the Minister one of the key issues that caught his
attention is the practice followed by private firms in hiring workers under contract basis. It has become a common practice for private companies to outsource and hire employees on a contract basis. As a result, the employee’s future becomes quite uncertain, he added.
