Several new MPs who have adorned Parliament after their victory at the general election also made their maiden speeches in Parliament yesterday, participating in the Emergency debate.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa participating in the Emergency debate said that they witnessed how development was taken to the village via the Mahinda Chintana in the past few years. He added it was after this improvement that he laid the foundation for his political career with the intention of doing a service to the people of the Hambantota District under the theme Let us develop our Village .

He noted that the era of the country s journey towards development and its future has dawned. There were some persons who raised their voices on behalf of freedom. There were those who wrote on behalf of freedom and those who got onto the streets.

However, what was needed today was also a political group which
targets freedom. They do not need an era in which a certain political group attempts to achieve their own ends.

He emphasized that the victory achieved by making supreme sacrifices should be safeguarded as an honour to them. This freedom, he added, should be passed on to the next generation.
