Special Commission to grant relief
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has revealed the setting up of a Special Commission to grant relief to civilians who were affected by terrorism in the North and East. He made this disclosure moving the resolution in Parliament yesterday to extend the Emergency.
The Prime Minister said the main challenge they would have to face in
the future is defeating the LTTE s international network and its
activists. The intention of the Government is to see that the people will not be plagued by terrorism again. Large scale development is now taking place in the North and East.

He opined that a Commission will be established to make
recommendations on measures that should be taken to mend if mutual relations between communities had been strained. What they expect from this Commission is to extend benefits to the people who had been impacted by terrorism for 30 years, the Prime Minister added.
