The Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardene has assured solutions to all problems related to the admission of children to schools.
He pointed out that it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure a school for every child. Schools for this year have already been allocated. If any parent says a school has not been provided for his child, an appeal can be made if they are in a position to prove the case with legal documents. Such appeals will be entertained from the 10th to the 17th of this month.
These should be directed to the Education Secretary by registered post. Problems do not surface with regard to other grades. The Minister revealed of plans to enact regulations for school admissions for 2011 through a Parliamentary Select Committee.
The Minister made these statements while addressing the media at the Ministry auditorium. It was revealed at the news briefing that applications will be entertained from Monday for the recruitment of 554 teachers for Commerce and Science in the Advance Level. It was clarified that there would be no mediation of the Education Ministry or any Minister in the granting of schools for students who have qualified for studies in Advanced Level classes. The admissions will take place via the School Principals. |
